The story behind this design
Drawing a pie slice from directly above loses the layers, so each slice here is angled to show the crust, the custard and the cream as three separate bands of colour. The whipped cream swirls are drawn loose and uneven, the way a spoon actually leaves them. Spice brown fills the background, which keeps the orange custard reading as filling rather than as a flat shape.
