The story behind this design
Grouping the skulls changes the mood entirely: one skull is a memento mori, several become an ornament. They are packed at slightly different angles with roses filling the gaps, so the eye keeps travelling instead of settling on a face. The drawing borrows the density of old ironwork, and a single warm red keeps the whole cluster from reading grey.
