The story behind this design

A vixen and her cubs are drawn together in a loose group, the cubs overlapping her so the shapes read as one family rather than four separate animals. The rust of the fox coats is the loudest color on the mug, cooled by grays and creams in the undersides and tail tips. The drawing is soft-edged and affectionate rather than naturalistic, which is why it suits a mug more than a field guide.
