The story behind this design
Stepped diamonds come out of weaving rather than drawing: a diagonal on a loom has to be built from small square steps, and that constraint is what gives the motif its staircase edge. This version keeps the steps visible instead of smoothing them, and sets teal and turquoise against a sand tone so the bands read as warm and cool in turn. The rhythm changes between bands so nothing repeats too tidily.
