The story behind this design

Most sunsets get painted as a straight horizon and a big orange disc. Here the light does the work instead: bands of coral, apricot and deep rose stack up the cover with no sun visible at all, and a low line of flowers and grasses runs along the bottom as a dark silhouette against them. The name sits in the warm middle band, which is the lightest part of the composition. It reads as the last twenty minutes of a beach day rather than the postcard version.
