The story behind this design
Gold on black has to be handled carefully on something held at arm’s length all day: here the gold is broken into thin interlocking arcs rather than solid shapes, so the pattern catches the eye without filling the back of the phone. Gray sits between the arcs as a mid tone. On the Matte finish the gold reads as bronze, which is a noticeably different object from the Glossy version.
