The story behind this design
All-over printing happens before the garment is sewn, which is why the birds can run straight across a shoulder seam without breaking. The design takes advantage of that with birds drawn large enough to be cut by the pattern pieces, so a wing may continue onto a sleeve. Their plumage is worked in muted blues and warm browns, which keeps a busy motif from becoming restless on something worn to sleep in.
