The story behind this design
Most botanical prints put dark drawing on a light ground; this one inverts it, and the whole character of the dress follows from that. The oxblood base is a browned, slightly dusty red rather than a wine, and the foliage is laid over it in muted sage and bone so the leaves read as faded rather than fresh.
