The story behind this design
White flowers need something behind them or they simply vanish, so this design reverses the usual arrangement and puts the pale blooms on the darker ground rather than the other way round. That single decision does all the work: the vines read clearly from a distance, and the square keeps its contrast even when folded down to a narrow band.
