The story behind this design
A tiling pattern has to survive being seen at a fraction of its full size, because a bandana is almost never displayed flat. The shapes here are kept simple and the spacing regular, so a two-inch strip of the square still reads as the same design as the whole thing. That consistency is harder to achieve than a busier pattern and is the reason this one looks deliberate rather than random.
