The story behind this design
The leaves were drawn large enough that only four or five of them cross the width of the bed, which is what gives the design its calm. Navy carries almost the whole surface, and the flowers are kept pale so they read as highlights instead of as a second pattern. The overlap is deliberate: leaves pass in front of and behind one another, so the eye reads depth rather than a flat repeat.
