The story behind this design
Snow does most of the drawing in this image. The conifers keep only slivers of dark green where the branches have shed their load, so the trees register as vertical marks in a mostly white field. The palette is a narrow run of white, pale gray and pine, with no strong focal point, which is what makes the piece easy to live with over a long winter. The mood is hushed and slightly muffled, the way woods sound after heavy snow.
